COMPUTER GRAPHICS: MOVIE FX
I've done my fair share of conventional fx on many movies — smoke, explosions, crowds, etc. — but my real talent was solving problems that required procedural solutions. Highlights include developing one of the first cloth systems used in high end movie production for My Favorite Martian, creating swarms of non-intersecting rats (in closeup!) for Bless the Child, and devising the maglev traffic of the future for Minority Report. Other fun things include blowing up Homer Simpson in the 3D Treehouse of Horror episode, evenly spacing the bullet wakes and creating an EMP blast for The Matrix, and blowing up a few asteroids in Star Wars II.
When I moved to Toronto I moved to backend, tool, and pipeline development.
After 25 years in the industry it was time to move on.
